COOL RIDGE CARBON NEUTRAL
What it means and why it matters
Carbon Neutrality means achieving a net balance between the amount of carbon emissions we produce from making Cool Ridge and the amount we offset.
We strive to limit our immediate carbon emissions and support projects that offset carbon emissions. It's an important step in the fight against climate change and helps progress towards a sustainable future for our planet.
Why Cool Ridge being certified Carbon Neutral is important to us.
We're all about feel-good refreshment. That’s why our still water bottles and sparkling water bottles are made from 100% recycled PET (excluding cap and label).
It’s also why we encourage refilling with initiatives such as our ‘When you can / when you can't - buy Cool Ridge' campaign.
But our Carbon Neutral certification is just the beginning of our sustainable hydration journey. We remain committed to reducing our environmental impact.
Our Carbon Footprint
Emission reduction strategies and offsetting opportunities
We take responsibility for our emissions. We seek to reduce them through our strategies including the introduction of rPET and we've purchased carbon offsets in projects we support that reduce and remove carbon emissions from being created in projects across Australia and the globe.
Asahi Beverages has undertaken work to measure all quantifiable Cool Ridge carbon emissions. Measuring those emissions has allowed Asahi to know how many credits are required across our projects that offset eligible carbon emissions and, ultimately, achieve carbon neutral accreditation from Climate Active for Cool Ridge products.
Through Asahi’s company-wide sustainability work, we have embarked upon the journey to reduce our carbon emissions for Cool Ridge, as we seek to be less reliant on carbon credits in the future and to retain carbon neutral certification for Cool Ridge products.
HOW WE MEASURED CARBON EMISSIONS FOR COOL RIDGE PRODUCTS
Upstream Emissions
Plastic acquisition
- • Production of plastic resins
- • Transport of plastic resins to plastics site
Acquisition of other materials
- • Production of other materials (e.g. labels, packaging, chemicals)
- • Transport of other materials to manufacturing sites
Excluded emission sources
- • Pallet manufacturing*
Production / Service Delivery
Water acquisition
- • Electricity at water acquisition sites
- • Water transport from acquisition sites to manufacturing sites
Materials manufacturing and transport
- • Electricity at plastics facility
- • Carbon dioxide used to make sparkling water
- • Transport of packaging and other materials to manufacturing facilities
- • Electricity at manufacturing facilities
- • Natural gas for cleaning at manufacturing

Downstream emissions
Transport of bottled water
- • Transport from customer distribution centres to retail outlets
- • Refrigeration of bottled water
Waste disposal
- • Manufacturing waste to recycling
- • Manufacturing waste to landfill
End-of-life treatment
- • Cardboard at landfill
- • Plastics at landfill
Excluded emission sources*
- • Consumer transport to and from retail outlets*
- • Pallet treatment and transport*
- • Packaging transport to landfill or recycling*
* These emissions sources cannot be quantified using actual or projected data and are estimated to be immaterial (less than 1% each, and less than 5% collectively, of the carbon inventory for Cool Ridge products). They are therefore excluded from the carbon inventory according to Climate Active’s methodology.
Carbon Offset Projects We Support
In our pursuit of carbon neutrality, we’ve invested in in carbon reduction and removal projects (by purchasing emissions offset credits), both locally in Australia and around the world.
We’d love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you may have.
